The Goldberg Variations



The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, are a set of 30 variations for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Glenn Herbert Gould(September 25, 1932 – October 4, 1982)was a Canadian pianist.
He was a Bach specialist, espicially Goldberg Variations.
He gave up concert performances in 1964, dedicating himself to the recording studio for the rest of his career, and performances for television and radio.

He got injured on tailbone and seeing picture above he used that chair for the rest of his life. Maybe because of his father's gift.

He loved steinway like I do.

He was born in Kiev, Ukraine in the Russian Empire.
After his conservatory at age 20, he soon began to tour Russia where he was often paid with bread, butter and chocolate rather than money, due to the country's economic hardships.
Later, He settled in the United States in 1940, and became an American citizen in 1944.

He had mental problem of sexuality and ideology hardship.
But He is one of greatest pianist for all century.
